Waterproofing Excavation In Windsor, Ontario

Narrow trench dug down the outside of a house foundation wall to the footing

Waterproofing excavation means digging down the outside of your basement wall so a leak can be fixed from the outside, where the water gets in. We dig to the footing, expose the wall and replace the weeping tile, then backfill with clear stone. Every excavation is fully insured.

Why A Waterproofing Excavation Fixes Leaks From The Outside

Water reaches a basement from the soil outside the wall. A waterproofing excavation lets the wall be cleaned, cracks repaired and a membrane put on, so the water is stopped before it reaches the concrete or block. Inside sealers cannot do that, because the water is still pushing on the wall from behind.

The waterproofing excavation also exposes the weeping tile at the footing. In older homes that drain is often clay tile that has cracked, filled with silt or been crushed. New perforated pipe in clear stone gives the water a way out again.

Windsor Clay Holds Water Against The Basement Wall

Windsor sits on deep clay, and clay drains slowly. After a rain the soil next to the house stays wet for days, and that water presses against the foundation. That is a big reason so many Windsor basements flooded in 2016 and 2017.

During a waterproofing excavation we replace the clay next to the wall with clear stone so water drops straight down to the new drain. The clay that comes out is trucked away instead of going back against the house.

What Happens During A Waterproofing Excavation

The waterproofing excavation follows the same steps on every wall. First, locates are marked and the area is cleared of plants, decks or walkways. Next, the trench is dug to the footing with sloped or supported walls. Then the wall is cleaned, repaired and sealed, and new weeping tile goes in along the footing. Finally, clear stone and then clean fill go back in, and the surface is graded away from the house.

Most homeowners work with a waterproofing company for the membrane and the repairs, and we handle the waterproofing excavation, the stone and the backfill. Tell us who is doing your waterproofing and we will plan the dig around their work.

Waterproofing Excavation Pricing

Exterior waterproofing in Canada usually costs $100 to $300 per linear foot, and that price covers the dig and the waterproofing together. The excavation part alone often runs $1,500 to $5,000, depending on depth and access. A 25-foot section often runs $2,500 to $7,500, and a full house perimeter can reach $15,000 to $25,000 or more. Decks, stairs and tight side yards add time. Our written waterproofing excavation quote lists the length, depth and every item in the job.
